Advancing Play-Based Care in Pediatric Primary Care

DATE RANGE: 2022

The Challenge

Primary care providers have limited time during well-child visits, yet these interactions present an important opportunity to promote early childhood development. The goal was to equip pediatric healthcare providers with practical tools that encouraged caregiver-child play during visits with children ages 18–36 months, particularly within medically underserved communities.

My Role

Served as a developmental consultant helping translate child development research into practical educational resources for healthcare professionals participating in the Prescription for Play initiative.

What I Contributed

Impact

The Prescription for Play initiative has reached more than 3.5 million children across all 50 U.S. states, helping integrate conversations about play and early childhood development into pediatric care.
